HAWAIʻI OCEAN POOL EMERGENCY SAFETY (HOPES) is powered by community members who care about water safety, public access, and protecting lives. Volunteers are essential to keeping our programs responsive, resilient, and rooted in Hawaiʻi.
Whether you have professional expertise or simply time and heart to give, there is a meaningful role for you at HOPES.
Support our core mission by assisting with water safety–focused efforts.
Examples include:
Assisting certified lifeguards or instructors during trainings and drills
Supporting pool safety initiatives and community education events
Helping with setup, breakdown, and on-site coordination at safety programs
Acting as safety monitors or general assistants (training provided as needed)
Note: Roles involving direct water supervision or teaching will require certifications.
Help spread awareness and connect HOPES with the community we serve.

Staffing outreach tables at community events
Distributing educational materials
Helping coordinate school, youth, or community group presentations
Supporting public awareness campaigns related to water safety and access
Behind-the-scenes help keeps HOPES running smoothly.

Supporting compliance, reporting, or internal operations
Make our events successful and welcoming.

Event setup, check-in, and breakdown
Volunteer coordination during events
Assisting with donation tables or information booths
